What is the best breed of cat for allergy sufferers?

I love cats and had several growing up, but I'm allergic to them. My cats gave me asthma, and I was also allergic to saliva (I'd get a rash). Is it true that certain breeds are better for allergy sufferers? Is there a way to care and groom for a cat that will reduce allergies?

This breed of cat is hypoallergenic. God bless!!

Sphinx are hairless but hair is not what many people are allergic to. You may be just as allergic to a Sphinx as any other cat. They are also oily and leave oily spots where they rest.

Yes there are many good breeds people can have without suffering from allergies. I have them too, so your not the only one. But, if you have breeds that give you allerigies and you love being around them, just make sure not to touch your face after you pet one. i'm sure you will be fine. Best Wishes!

It depends on the type of allergy… If it's an allergy to fur then try a Sphynx. They're hairless. LoL
And if budget is no option you can actually purchase a lab-produced hypoallergenic cat. This is useful if the allergy is caused by saliva.

Siberians tend to be easy on allergy sufferers and so do Ragdolls.

There is a breed that is hairless and called a Sphinx , maybe this will be one that does not affect your allergies .

You could try buying this book (or renting it from your public library if they carry it): The Sneeze-Free Cat Owner: Allergy Management & Breed Selection for the Allergic Cat Lover by Diane Morgan. It might help you in finding the right cat for you.
