Has anyone found an allergy medicine that's very effective at treating allergies to cats?

A good friend of mine and I would like to get an apartment together since we live in the same city and sharing rent would be much cheaper than living separately. The only problem is that she has a cat, and I am very allergic. I've been to her current apartment once, and within about 15 minutes, my eyes got puffy and itchy and I started sneezing and wheezing and had to leave. Has anyone had any experience with an antihistamine that's effective enough in treating a cat allergy that they could actually live with a cat?

I am allergic to cats and have 2 of them. I found Allegra to be a good prescription allergy med but I now use the generic Tylenol sinus and I am fine. If I have a bad day (like if my normal seasonal allergies act up as well), I take a benadryl at night.

I am deathly allergic to cats and find that Zyrtec helps me…

Good luck!

Nasonex works better for me than any antihistimine I have tried. We have a cat and I am severely allergic to them.

The best way to overcome allergies to cats is to get one or be around one as much as possible.Start off gradual. This may sound absurd but it works.I've don it and my clients have also. Symptoms will only last about 3 months. After that the histamine will no longer build up in your blood.

I have two cats at home and I'm allergic to cat dander. I take Singulair daily for the cats and for dust mite allergies, along with a nosespray to prevent sinus infections. I also make sure I keep a lint roller to clean if they ever get hair on my clothes.

Claritin, not Clarinex (which is over the counter) and Nasonex works well for me. I also receive allergy shots as I am extremely allergic to everything. Initially, I couldn't be around cats or dogs without having a severe asthma attack and allergy reaction. Since starting the program above 2 years ago, I can now be around cats all day without getting sick. I recently volunteered at a cat and dog shelter and was fine the entire time.
